to-read or not to-read, there is no question!

i've decide to invest in a library card. the key here is that it's a free investment! instead of spending 20 bucks a pop, i am going to conquer my bad habit of never returning things i've rented (i.e. the dark knight dvd that i rented from hollywood video in AUGUST and have yet to take back. it really isn't my fault, i heard that hollywood video closed down before i even seriously considered returning the movie anyway). it's almost a new year and it's about time i become a responsible, fiscally conscious adult! did i just doom myself?

anyway, here are the top list of books i've been meaning to read:

1. the memory keeper's daughter kim edwards
2. the bell jar sylvia plath
3. the omnivore's dilemma michael pollan
4. one hundred years of solitude gabriel garcia marquez
5. the sunday philosophy club alexander mccall smith

if you're feeling like taking up a classic you never got around to reading in high school, maybe these delightfully cloth-bound books from anthropologie will motivate you. they are $20 but i think they're worth it. not only are they great literary works that will simultaneously enrich you intellectually and make you look impressive, they are the perfect decor for an empty bookshelf or bed stand!
also read this New York Times article on how we fantasize about people's lives based on the books they read on the subway! people watching is so fun.
