love always, daddy

alright, alright i'll admit that i am a bit of a daddy's girl but i wouldn't have it any other way. maybe that's why i find this exhibit by designer robert guest so endearing. for the past 15 years, he has gotten up every school day, without fail, to write his two children a letter before they go to school. joanna & theo are a lucky twosome to have such an amazing father, and they have thousands of notes to look back on now for words of wisdom. it's wonderful to see a dad remember to take a little time out of his day to remind his kids how much he loves them. it's so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of a full-time job providing for your family, and i think that this dedication is quite admirable. i can't even force myself to write in a diary on a regular basis (i've been meaning to forever, and i know i will regret not writing down my memories but self control has not be my forte). hopefully that will change soon.

side note: my favorite scene in father of the bride, which happens to also be the one that makes me burst in to tears every time, is when steve martin finds his daughter with cold feet playing basketball in the snow the night before her wedding. he reassures her that everything will end happily ever after because she is exquisite and he can't believe how much she's grown to be a woman he can be so proud of. i'm getting misty eyed already!
