I was ecstatic when I discovered Bansky prints at the Melrose flea market.  I have my favorite one hanging above by vanity, and this short video just makes me love him even more.

garance meets the new york (times)

I just read this article in the New York Times about my favorite fashion blogger (sorry Scott, but I'm sure you feel the same) the irresistable Garance Dore. Below are my favorite excerpts from the interview...in case you're not as enamored with The Sartorialist and Garance as I am, the background is that they are the two biggest names in street fashion photography - both with impeccable taste and keen eyes - that fell in love and recently moved in together. What a perfect couple.

         “I wanted to be with Scott,” said Ms. Doré on a recent afternoon, at a Pain Quotidien near her home. Despite a grisly sleet storm, she looked elegant, armored against the weather in a Band of Outsiders double-breasted wool jacket, her neck bundled with a heavy gray Sarti scarf.         For Fashion Week, the couple plans to hit as many shows as possible. After the hubbub, they hope to work on their new loft, in a prewar building. The walls are still bare; one of the first pieces they plan to hang is a black-and-white photograph by August Sander from Cologne, Germany, in 1926. The photo, a gift from Ms. Doré, depicts a dapper gentleman in a bowler and topcoat. Mr. Schuman cited it as an inspiration for the Sartorialist. 

        “But,” she added with a smile, “the idea of following the person I love, it’s easy to say that when the person you loves lives in New York

Nevertheless, she said, the apartment (and New York itself) is now shared turf.
       “I don’t make sacrifices,” she said of her move. “There is no, ‘I leave everything for my man.’ I just do things when they make me feel good and they feel right."

thaumatrope on a stick

What's a thaumatrope, you ask?  Well staying on my Valentine's Day kick, Ithought I would share this brilliant idea for homemade valentines! To me, handmade anything is the best kind, especially for holiday cards.  As clever and witty greeting cards can be (trust me, I had an addiction to the Hallmark aisle in grocery stores for quite some time, stocking up for "future" events), there's nothing as cute or meaningful and one made with tender love and care. Even more so when they're in action!

Use this thaumatrope-on-a-stick on Made by Joel, as inspiration.  A great arts & crafts project for the weekend!

Materials:  Paper, cardboard, double-stick tape or glue, round chopstick or kebab stick, photo prints or drawings of kissers in profile.  Line them up carefully so that they work together when you spin the stick, and test it out before you glue!

wish-list for valentine's day

You know... besides a Valentine.  I'm loving these darling doo-das, completely unnecessary - but then again, the best things are!

1. This rubber stamp of hand-drawn calligraphy from Paperfinger is the perfect way to sign off any letter - Valentine's Day or any day thereafter.

2. This set of heart shaped tea-cups and saucers, that come in a set of 6 cheery colors.  The unique shape of the cup sculpts any drink of choice into a heart!  Perfect for sipping with your loved ones or for a bridal shower. Very lady-like. China makes me so happy.

3. Leave your mark with this lipstick-stain inspired rubber stamp!  How saucy would it be to enclose all of your envelopes with this?

4. These X's & O's Kisses & Hugs gold studs. I love the mismatch of them. 

5. Customize your own chocolate bar? GENIUS.  With everything from goji berries to gum drops on the list,  you can make your favorite one-of-a-kind chocolate bar. Why didn't I think of this? Especially with a clever name like Chocomize.

6. Jimmy Choo's Candy Acrylic Clutch. In case I feel like splurging for a shock of hot pink.

Champagne on ice and tufted arm chairs? Yes, please!  This is the perfect room for an all-girls party.  Can't you imagine kicking up your heels and cutting into a slice of cake?
