I just read this article in the New York Times about my favorite fashion blogger (sorry Scott, but I'm sure you feel the same) the irresistable Garance Dore. Below are my favorite excerpts from the interview...in case you're not as enamored with The Sartorialist and Garance as I am, the background is that they are the two biggest names in street fashion photography - both with impeccable taste and keen eyes - that fell in love and recently moved in together. What a perfect couple.

         “I wanted to be with Scott,” said Ms. Doré on a recent afternoon, at a Pain Quotidien near her home. Despite a grisly sleet storm, she looked elegant, armored against the weather in a Band of Outsiders double-breasted wool jacket, her neck bundled with a heavy gray Sarti scarf.         For Fashion Week, the couple plans to hit as many shows as possible. After the hubbub, they hope to work on their new loft, in a prewar building. The walls are still bare; one of the first pieces they plan to hang is a black-and-white photograph by August Sander from Cologne, Germany, in 1926. The photo, a gift from Ms. Doré, depicts a dapper gentleman in a bowler and topcoat. Mr. Schuman cited it as an inspiration for the Sartorialist. 

        “But,” she added with a smile, “the idea of following the person I love, it’s easy to say that when the person you loves lives in New York

Nevertheless, she said, the apartment (and New York itself) is now shared turf.
       “I don’t make sacrifices,” she said of her move. “There is no, ‘I leave everything for my man.’ I just do things when they make me feel good and they feel right."

Keira Knightly does Vogue Italia

I'm not even a adamant Keira Knightly fan, but this spread in  Vogue Italia is undeniably gorgeous.  The English countryside looks like a dream and this screams modern day Jane Austen novel. The above library shot is my favorite - I would die for one of those climbing ladders and built in shelves.  I'm also currently wearing a full length tulle skirt so I think my opinion may be swayed.

These photographs of Swedish model Agnes Madsen are brightening my day.  She's in the latest collection of Ina Soltani, featured on one of my favorite blogs- the ever fabulous Bardot in Blue.  Dress up sessions always make a girl feel better, probably more so when you're strolling the streets of France!

rue: holiday edition

If you haven't heard of Rue Magazine yet, you've either been living under a rock or have just returned from a very extended vacation.  Their holiday spread is filled with gorgeous photography to get you in the celebrating spirit!  I'm ready to pop a bottle of champagne just reading it!

This is one of my favorite spreads to date: a holiday soiree with The Girls with Glasses, the creators and hosts of a talk show directed at entertaining and enlightening women about topics that affect us in a sassy, straight-up manner.

I can't wait to decorate my apartment with all things Christmas! The holidays get me in such a  merry mood and I want to host parties every week, ah must restrain myself.

camelot candids

I love seeing contact sheets, all of the photographs that didn't see press, especially from a photography giant like Richard Avedon.  This photo session with the Kennedys from 1961 is so sweet, they seem really happy in those candids from Camelot.  You can see the full book here.

 Carey Mulligan certainly has Hollywood wrapped around her little finger.  The cinematic darling of the moment pulls off her frosted pixie cut, one that would make most women look absolutely tragic. I love these photos of her from Interview Magazine, the brushstrokes of neon pink and orange look accidentally on purpose.  Must jot that down as my next Photoshop project.

The October J.Crew catalog immediately brought that song to mind. I'm adoring the hazy, misty look of the spread, it has me wanting to purchase a pair of those polka-dot tights immediately. I think I just might!

my father's daughter

The flawless Gwyneth Paltrow has a cookbook coming out in April 2011 called My Father's Daughter.  Her cookbook, dedicated to her late father, and tugs at my heartstrings because I'm a self-confessed daddy's girl too.  When Gwyneth's dad took her to France he said, "I wanted you to see Paris for the first time with a man who would always love you, no matter what." How sweet is that? I'm eager to see what recipes she included and to try them out as soon as possible!

I loved this shoot by Mario Testino for Vogue, cleverly titled The Beauty and the Feast.

norman parkinson

Norman Parkinson is a fantastic British photographer who has shot for the likes of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar in his day.  He worked mainly in portraits and fashion but his photographs were mainly taken on the busy streets of London.  I looooove this particular shot, it's so lovely!

grace kelly, is that you?

Nope, it's Claudia Schiffer for the spring/summer 2010 Ferragamo campaign with the ever-brilliant Mario Testino behind the lens.  I love that fashion houses are moving towards timeless elegance to sell their lines, I can't get enough of the soft lighting and the old-school glamour.  Sighing starts now.

One of my roommates recently asked me why I was "obsessed" with Audrey Hepburn after I put this print up in our kitchen.  I denied I was, but truth be told I really am. I can't help but adore her!  Especially after re-watching her classics like Breakfast at Tiffany's and Roman Holiday.  She's just so charming and effortlessly elegant! These are old publicity shots of Breakfast at Tiffany's take by Howell Conant.  Who else could be so chic in an empty apartment waiting to be unpacked? Only Holly Golightly would be sitting there dressed to the nines and sipping on a glass of champagne, she clearly stands for "less is more".  I'm dying to get my hands on Enchantment, the Audrey Hepburn biography by Donald Spoto.  Did you know that she was so frail she would have fainting fits? I'm fascinated already!

Did you know that Audrey Hepburn had a pet deer named Pippin? I'm a huge Audrey fan and I had no idea!  She treated Pippin like us mere mortals would treat a puppy, taking him on walks, napping with him, smothering him with love.  That woman is so fascinating!  You can buy this print along with three other black and whites here.
