I was ecstatic when I discovered Bansky prints at the Melrose flea market.  I have my favorite one hanging above by vanity, and this short video just makes me love him even more.

ten great years

Dying for this print.  I've always had a love affair with The Beatles, but ever since I got my record player (who I have affectionately named Oliver) I've rediscovered how amazing they are.  I'm so devastated this  poster is sold out! Crossing my fingers that it comes back.

paris vs. nyc

I found a new obsession: the blog Paris vs. New York- a tale of two cities.  A big surprise since it concerns my absolute favorite two cities in the world.  I thought this would be relevant since I mentioned the fabulous Carrie Brandshaw in yesterday's post.  I can't get enough of these graphics, definitely bookmarked!

figure drawing

Lonny Magazine has me wanting to take up figure drawing again, and to frame one for my bedroom.  I made a figure drawing almost identical to the one in Ryan Korban's apartment while I was taking studio art classes in Florence.  I also have a sudden urge to roll around in luxurious fur, but I'll try to restrain myself.

Look at this French Vogue with Sofia Coppola on the cover! Très chic. I love this fashion illustration playing off of the famous cover! Dark, sultry pose contrasted with soft blush pink., what a winner. I want it framed in my dressing room. That is, when I make it big and have a dressing room…le sigh.

helmut lang's inspiration

Merlin Spie's "La petite musette, casquée (2002)", pictured first, was the inspiration behind the Helmut Lang Stain Print chiffon top. In that image above, the person is facing a wall and breathing with the assistance of special diving head gear; yet, she has a cigarette in her right hand. It all symbolizes the passing of time. Michael Colovos, Helmut Lang's designer, mentioned how images like this help him recognize his mortality and inspire him to live and embrace life to the fullest.

I think it's so interesting how and where creatives find their muses.

Anyone else obsessed with the dashing Mr. Darcy from Austen's classic? Yeah, me too. Thats why I love these Mr. Darcy quotation posters by The Love Shop. How cute wold they be in an orante gold or silver frame in the corner of your bathroom?

Los Angeles artist Nan Lawson creates custom illustrations of you and your sugar pie honey bunch. How precious are these! It would be so heartwarming to give or receive these for a wedding gift, birthday present, or any time really just to say "Thinking of you."

miss me?

You've heard of the infamous "Missed Connections" postings on Craigslist and other sites that people post to hopefully reunite with a potential who passed by. I've always wondered who actually looks at those but I just might start after I've seen these charming and funny prints by Brooklyn-Australian artist Sophie Blackall. Sophie illustrates the postings for her blog and now sells prints on Etsy. I think they’re oh so heart warming and hopeful!

blast from the past

A clever series by Jason Powell. I would love to do this myself, and juxtapose pictures and friends and family over the years in familiar places. Hopefully I will get my SLR camera in the near future so I can!

garden of eden

British artist Pete Dungey plants little gardens in potholes on English roads. "If we planted one of these in every hole," he says, "it would be a like forest in the road." I fully believe in doing your part to make the world just a bit more beautiful, and I love this idea.

watercolors

I'm head over heels for the watercolors of young British artist Clare Owen. How darling are they? She loves “cats, tea, ukulele & all things French.” A fellow Francophile! I would love one of these to frame to put above my vanity or in my bathroom. I think I'll give it a try, myself!

i don't even like tattoos, i'm definitely not the kind of girl that likes bad boys and think their ink is sexy. actually i usually have the complete opposite reaction when i find out a guy has a tat, but i do love this:

Betsy Dunlap does gorgeous calligraphy for wedding invitations. But recently she did a man's tattoo with his daughters' names. I think it looks sweet and classic, and I'm sure he won't feel foolish for this later.

DIY: all's a-glitter

here's a fun idea for a holiday arts&crafts day: glitter reindeer! at some stores, these decorations go for upwards of 20 dollars so why not save yourself money and make them yourself? and let's face it, everything is better when it sparkles. why do you think diamonds are so popular? we're just all a bunch of magpies disguised as people.

stopping by your local crafts store, like michaels, is all it takes. i found this idea here.

and it reminded me of martha stewart's tip for making glittery pumpkins for halloween. don't they just brighten up that dreary stoop? they're eye-catching and so much more chic than your average jack-o-lantern.

big lights will inspire you

Stephen Wiltshire, a British autistic artist, took a twenty-minute helicopter ride over Manhattan. Twenty minutes. Then he sketched the entire skyline from memory. Every building was correct and drawn to scale! He's also done panoramic memory drawings of Tokyo, Rome, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Madrid, Dubai, Jerusalem and London. It's outrageous what the human mind is capable of.
